Northwich Autumn Head took place on a cold but sunny and dry (luckily) day in November. After spending the majority of the day sampling the food available, the only crew representing JOG and LSRA, a double of Megan Abra at bow and Ellie Kerr at stroke took part in the last division of the day, racing against four other crews in their WJ18 category.

Although the crew was prepared and the course expertly steered by Megan, the double were overtaken by all other members of their category, coming in last. The reason for this below average performance being that a certain member of the crew (not Megan) made the rookie error of having one of her gates the wrong way round, causing the blade to be at a slightly different angle, limiting performance. This could have been fixed relatively easily before racing but unfortunately this was only realised by the crew at the end of the race. However, no crabs were caught and everyone remained dry, therefore it wasn’t a complete disaster. Also, hopefully after a string of unsuccessful races at Northwich, the crew will fare better in the Spring, when they will hopefully once again return with a correctly rigged boat.
A big thank you to Mr Yates and the rest of LRGSBC for transporting the boat to and from Halton at short notice and providing support on the day.
