Plenty happening at the Gaunt
Website improvements, progress on river safety, dates for the diary and a call for a few extra pairs of hands.
It’s been a busy few weeks at Lancaster John O’Gaunt, with plenty happening both on and off the water.
The latest JOGSLETTER brings together some of the key club updates, along with a couple of dates that are definitely worth getting into the diary.
A refreshed club website
We’ve given the club website a bit of a makeover, making it easier to find the things members actually need for rowing.
And yes — quite a few hours have gone into it!
Some of the new and improved features
We’ve brought together some of the club’s most useful tools and resources, with a few new additions along the way. Click any of the boxes below to take a look.
The Members’ Area also brings together resources covering safety, training, boats and equipment, welfare, racing, events and club documents.
Can I Row Today?
Our new traffic-light system gives members a quick way to check whether conditions are suitable for singles, doubles, quads, fours and eights.
It brings together river level, sustained wind and forecast gusts, making it much easier to get a quick picture of conditions before boating.
A quick look before heading out may save a slightly more exciting row than you had planned!
Check rowing conditions →Encouraging progress on the fish pass
Club representatives met with United Utilities in July to discuss safety around the fish pass.
United Utilities were able to observe the temporary buoy installation from the river and see how crews leaving the landing stage could inadvertently be drawn towards the hazard.
Encouragingly, United Utilities supports the idea of a permanent buoy line and has offered to fund a professional river survey and the initial installation of an agreed system.

Like every community club, JOG relies on members giving a little bit of their time to keep things moving.

Extra helpers are always appreciated, so please sign up if you’re available.
Six wins at Hollingworth
A big well done to everyone who raced at Hollingworth Lake. It was a fantastic day for JOG, with six wins, several finals, first medals, first away races and one or two memorable moments along the way.
Read the Hollingworth race report →There’s plenty happening around the club at the moment, and as always a huge thank you goes to everyone who gives their time — whether that’s coaching, organising, towing trailers, helping sessions or working quietly away behind the scenes.
Plenty happening, and plenty still to come.
Gaunt to the fore.
