On the 27th December JOG and LSRA ran a series of scratch races with a total of 17 members competing in eights. Both of the boats used have been acquired from other clubs over the last year as part of the recovery work since Storm Desmond. Competing for the first time in Lancaster, since their international success, Scott and Mason Durant raced in opposing crews in the final race which was bogged down in controversy due to complaints surrounding the fairness of racing: “random” draw, selection of boats, selection of blades, selection of racing station, a last minute handicap for the “slower” of the two crews, and the “decision” regarding the victor all came into question. There still remains confusion over which crew was victorious:

Apparently this is the first time that the club has had two crews racing side-by-side against each other since 1974!
